Locomotive Concept
GE - Transportation

My Role:
User Interface Design
Visual Designer

I utilized my creativity and expertise to develop a cutting-edge concept for a touch display device aimed at revolutionizing locomotive control within GE's locomotive research division. This experimental project focused on enabling remote control of locomotives using a tablet or remote, even beyond the line of sight. Despite being a rapid concept, it received an overwhelmingly positive response, demonstrating its potential for transforming the industry.

As our product manager provided me with the existing design of the screen used for locomotive control, I was entrusted with the responsibility of enhancing its look and feel to align with the vision of a joystick-style device. My task was to reimagine and transform the outdated UI into a visually appealing and intuitive interface that would seamlessly integrate with the new touch display concept.

Drawing inspiration from my experience playing video games, I incorporated elements of game interface design into the locomotive control concept. I focused on creating a visually striking and immersive experience, making the main screen area the focal point while allocating the rest of the UI to one side of the screen. To achieve a modern and futuristic look, I carefully selected colors, typography, and layout that conveyed a sense of innovation and cutting-edge technology.

Results

The concept received positive feedback and successfully pushed the boundaries of interface design at GE. It demonstrated the potential for innovative and visually appealing interfaces, opening up new possibilities for future projects. The positive reception validated the importance of visual direction in creating impactful and forward-thinking user experiences.
